Though our little town of Phoenix which has a population of 4,463 people and covers 1.44 square miles, let me tell you, Christmas is the most fabulous time of the year here and…….in Southern Oregon!
The biggest event in Phoenix, and all surrounding Southern Oregon cities and towns is their Tree Lighting Ceremony, which kicks off our holiday season. This year our Tree Lighting Ceremony was held on Saturday, December 3 from 4:30pm – 7pm at the Phoenix Civic Center. Santa came and lit the Christmas tree and he and Mrs. Claus handed out ornaments for the children to hang. We heard a very heart felt message from one of our City Commissioners William Bolpert and after the initial ceremony, everyone was invited for a time of Fellowship at First Presbyterian Church to enjoy hot cocoa, sandwiches, and snacks.
Throughout this holiday month, many events will be held in Phoenix as well as the surrounding towns and cities of Ashland, Talent, Jacksonville, Medford, and outlying areas. You do not have to travel far to enjoy the holiday season and everything each town has to offer!!!
I was fortunate enough to attend the tree lighting Ceremony in Jacksonville also this year. Such a beautiful town with every shop on E. California Street decorated with wreath swags and lights. Father Christmas also was on the scene to take pictures with the children.
